Kimber's Latest News
WOW - what a wild ride my life's been lately! I came home to America to do four months of traveling around and playing shows. I finished studying for my M.B.A. in August, and had all intentions of going back to Australia to begin studying for my PhD in March. However, after landing in Nashville to do a few shows at Tootsie's and The Bluebird, I changed my mind! In true Kimber-fashion, I made a spur-of-the-moment decision to MOVE here. I now have an apartment overlooking the Ryman Auditorium (keeps my goals in focus) and things are starting to settle down for me.
Tour
I can't express how much fun the tour was, and all the amazing people I met along the way. Me and Dave McKeowen, my guitarist, started off in L.A. at the Coffee Gallery Backstage, and worked our way to my Uncle Joe's honky tonk, 'The Water Hole', in Marlin, Texas, where we had a great time playing with Wes Hardin and the Country Outlaws. Those folks sure know how to have a good time, and I think Dave was seen two-steppin' a few times! ;o) The next stop was Alabama, where I played at my hometown cafe - The Rebel Queen. Everytime I come here, it's like walking through the past, with Mama and Grandma right there beside me. It sure was fun, and seeing everyone from home was wonderful - as always. I love my hometown and the amazing folks in it! Lastly, a huge THANKS to Joey Beaird for the equipment - and a great night! HUNKA HUNKA BURNING LOVE!!! ;o)) Hope to do it again! Jacksonville, N.C. was a hoot! We played at Sharp Shooters Sports Bar and it was a hoot! Met lots of really nice folks and the show went off without a hitch! Loved it! The best part of that trip was meeting so many of our great Marines, who are either heading out or back from the Middle East. I'm grateful they came to the show, and hope they all stay safe while fighting for this great country!! Also caught up with some family I haven't seen in almost 20 years, so that topped it all off! I hope to be heading back for another show down the track! Tootsie's in Nashville was a hoot - as expected. However, the sound system went on the blink, so we did the next best thing...we pulled up three stools (Robert, my manager, joined Dave on the guitar) and did a show without the mics or being plugged in - just raw. It was a good time and I enjoyed it. They say county singers always remember their first time playing Tootsie's, as well as their first time at the Opry...I'm waitin' on the Opry now! ;)) I played The Bluebird on January 3, and it was a great show. My good friend, and original BOX TOP band member, Gary Talley, played guitar for me, and we had a great night. I just love Nashville, and how you can find a honky tonk at every corner! I love finding all the fun things the city has to offer, and meeting new friends. It's hard leaving Australia after being there so long, and leaving my 'family' behind, but I have faith that I'll see them all again someday when I come over to do a tour ;)) Besides, I might be living here now, but that doesn't mean I will lose touch - I am forever grateful for the friendships and support I've been blessed with there, and it'll always be my 'home away from home'!
New Video
The video clip for 'Lessons I Wish I'd Never Learned' has now been completed. It was directed and produced by Brian Gaskill, whom I loved working with - and highly recommend! It will be available on video channels all over soon. In the meantime, however, have a look at it on YouTube.
Management
My great friend, Robert Cunningham, is now managing my career. He was also a good friend of the late Vern Gosdin ('The Voice'), and appreciates REAL country music - which is important to me, as that's what I sing/write. I fully trust Robert, and feel that we can move mountains as a team. I look forward to many achievements together!
